Cancer doesn’t care who you are. It doesn’t check to see if you’re a small business owner, a rental rep working late into the night, or someone just trying to make it through the day. It hits hard and indiscriminately. But at Ventures Car and Truck Rentals, we don’t believe in standing still — not when we can stand up.

That’s why we’ve joined the Fight To End Cancer. Not as a marketing move. Not because it looks good on a banner. But because cancer has touched our families, our team, and the clients we serve every single day. This fight is personal.

A Business Built on Community — And Caring

For more than 30 years, Ventures has been a proudly Canadian, family-run business. We’ve always done things a little differently. No corporate scripts. No red tape. Just real people showing up, ready to help — whether it’s renting a minivan at 2 a.m. or staying late to sort out someone’s last-minute truck rental.

Over time, those interactions have built something bigger than just business: a community. And when that community hurts, we feel it.

“We’ve seen too many people we care about go through this,” says Richard Ishmael, owner of Ventures. “Some have beaten it. Others haven’t. But no matter the outcome, cancer leaves a mark. It doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed — it affects their families, their coworkers, everyone who knows them.”

This year, Ventures decided to do more than just feel the impact. We’re taking action.

Why We Chose the Fight To End Cancer

There are a lot of causes out there. But the Fight To End Cancer (FTEC) stood out — not just for what it does, but how it does it.

FTEC isn’t your typical fundraiser. It’s raw. It’s real. And it’s deeply human. Every year, they host a black-tie charity boxing gala that features everyday people stepping into the ring — people who have trained for months not just to throw punches, but to throw down for something bigger than themselves.

The money raised goes directly to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, one of the top five cancer research centres in the world. It’s science-backed, impact-driven, and deeply Canadian — just like we are.

For Ventures, supporting FTEC isn’t just about writing a cheque. It’s about showing up. We’re proud to be part of this year’s sponsor family, lending not just our name but our voice to a movement that matters.

Cancer Isn’t Just a Statistic — It’s a Story

One of the hardest things about cancer is how many people have a story about it.

We’ve heard from clients renting a car to visit loved ones in treatment. We’ve had staff take time off to care for parents or children going through chemo. We’ve felt the emptiness of loss and the relief of remission. And through it all, we’ve realized something simple but powerful:

You don’t have to be a doctor or a scientist to fight cancer. You just have to care enough to act.

At Ventures, our fight looks like sponsorships and awareness campaigns, yes — but also conversations, donations, and simply showing up. We know we can’t do it all, but we’re committed to doing our part.

What You Can Do Right Now

Want to get involved? Here’s how you can join the fight with us:

  • Donate to the Fight To End Cancer: Every dollar makes a difference. You can support a fighter or make a general donation at fighttoendcancer.com.
  • Buy a ticket to the gala: It’s not just a night out — it’s a night that changes lives.
  • Share the story: Whether it’s ours, yours, or someone else’s, keep the conversation going.

Cancer thrives in silence. Let’s be louder than that.

One More Thing: We’re Not Done Yet

We’re proud to stand with the FTEC community, with the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, and with every single person fighting, surviving, remembering, and hoping.

And we’re not stopping here. At Ventures, we believe in being there — for the late-night breakdowns, the unexpected moves, the big family trips, and yes, the tough stuff too. It’s all part of the ride.

So yeah — we rent cars and trucks. But today, we’re fighting cancer too.

Let’s keep driving forward. Together.
